Overview
Link is a digital wallet product owned and operated by Stripe. All of the customer-facing websites on our platform (ie: your winery's website) will be featuring a Link integration on the billing page to reduce friction when your customers wish to add a new credit card.
Link is used by over 200 millions customers worldwide and around 40% of Offset's customer base across all of our clients already have Link accounts.
What Does Link do?
When customers need to add a new credit card in the checkout process, rummaging through their wallet so they can type the numbers into a blank form can be a tedious step. Customers with Link accounts can now add a card with just a few clicks. Cards saved via Link can be used the same as any other saved cards for returning web purchases, wish granting, admin orders, club processing, etc.
IMPORTANT: Link provides a quick, optional path for your customers with Link wallets to be able to enter a new credit card on your website. After it has been saved, it can be used as any other card for returning purchases, club billing, admin orders, etc.
How Link Displays to Your Customers
When your customers add a new payment method, Stripe checks if the customer's email has a Link account, and presents one of three experiences:
If your Customer has recently used Link in their browser
If your customer has a Link account and has used it recently in their browser, they will instantly be able to access the cards in their wallet to choose from.
If your Customer has a Link Account but hasn't used it recently
If your customer hasn't used Link in their browser recently, when they want to add a Credit Card they will receive a 2FA code to verify their account, and can then immediately select a payment method from their wallet to choose from (see above screenshot.)
If Your Customer Doesn't Have a Link Account
If your customer doesn't have a Link account, they are presented with a standard credit card entry form so they can manually enter a new card. When saving the card, they will see an optional checkbox to create a Link account.
NOTE: Your customers will have the option the to create a Link account when entering a new credit card, but regardless of whether or not they choose to create one, they can still save the credit card to their account.
