Here is the breakdown for the meaning of each...
"Customer Source" (or "customer_source" in an upload template or customer export) is how the customer account was initially created in the Offset platform, the function or path of that account creation.
On the Settings>Configurations page of the platform, the Customer Source cell has three defaults:
Internal = The customer account is created by an admin user directly in the platform or via a bulk upload. For example if someone hands you a business card and you create their customer account for them.
Web = Website sign up, completed by the customer when signing up for the mailing list.
Tasting Room = Admin user created via in person experience at winery. Creating a new customer account to process an order for example.
On that same Settings>Configuration page, those three options above are defaults, and cannot be adjusted or removed from the list. Your team can add custom entries, but be aware, there are not many other paths in which a customer account is created in the platform.
Plus, this data field should not get confused with "Customer Referral", also known as "referral_source" in an upload template or customer export.
All default options listed on this same page...

..."Customer Referral" is how the customer first heard about your brand. Did a friend tell them, were they at a restaurant, read an article, told by a limo driver, etc.
For example, in the Customer Referral section, "Hotel/Other Winery" is how a customer heard about the brand. It is not the function or path of how their account was created in the platform which is the Customer Source.
In other words, someone can hear about your winery from many different paths (Customer Referral), but the actual creation of their account is the Customer Source.
